The Albanese and Cook governments have selected the site for the new Henderson Defence Precinct in Western Australia, marking the next stage in plans to establish a major naval shipbuilding and sustainment hub.

The selected layout includes preferred locations for naval shipbuilding and sustainment activities as well as the future sustainment of Australia’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS. The Commonwealth has committed an initial $12 billion to delivering the precinct.
